Gino Malacarne was born in Portomaggiore,
Ferrara in 1955. He studied architecture at IUAV-Istituto
Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and received his degree
under the guidance of Aldo Rossi in 1981. Since
then he has taught design studios and seminars at IUAV until 2004.
He has been a member of the Board of the PhD in Architectural
Composition of the DPA at the University IUAV of Venice until 2007.
He has taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of
Trieste. Professor of architectur and urban design since 2004 at
the Faculty of Architecture “Aldo Rossi” University of Bologna, he
became Dean of the Faculty in 2005 and since 2012 has been a member
of the board of the PhD program in Architectural Composition of the
Faculty. From 2012 to 2015 he has been Coordinator of the Master in Architecture and Vice President of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna.
Involved with
research in architectural composition, Malacarne has conducted
various studies on theatre design and civic architecture. He has
published projects and essays in national and international
journals and take part in conferences. He has participated in urban
requalification for some public administrations with architectural
projects and realizations of urban public spaces and public
residential buildings. Malacarne has taught in national and
international design seminars and participated in numerous
international design competitions.
He has
participated in collective exhibitions of architectural projects

edited the "Aldo Rossi e Venezia, il teatro e la città", Milano
2002. He published " Die Stadt und die Türme. Le città e le torri"
in the book: Die Idee der Stadt/L'idea della
città. I/II/III, Tübingen-Berlin, Ernst Wasmuth Verlag 2009.
He is the author of the book " Progetto Fo-Ce, città lineare Forlì
Cesena", Bologna 2012. He edited the publication "La Casa. Forme e
luoghi dell'abitare urbano", Milano 2013.
