Gian Piero Siroli does research in the field of Subnuclear Physics, particularly in experiments at CERN in Geneva and he is author of many papers on this topic on many international journals. His teaching activities also include courses in basic electronics and computer security, including political, social, and military aspects ("Cybersecurity and Cyberwarfare"). He is a founding member of the Departmental Center for Computational Social Science (CSSC) and a member of the scientific committee of CSSC and IRIAD Review (International Research Institute Disarmament Archive).
Gian Piero Siroli represents the University of Bologna in RUniPace (Universities for Peace Network).
GPS is involved in the activities of the "Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs" (Nobel Peace Prize 1995) in which he is Project Coordinator of initiatives related to the cyber-security domain and represents Pugwash in the "Open-Ended Working Group on security of and in the use of information and communications technologies" of the UN.
