Gianluca Tatarelli has been a fixed-term researcher at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna, since 2025, where he works within the "eDeTox" research unit. He received his PhD in Social and Economic Sciences from Sapienza University of Rome, defending a theoretical and empirical dissertation on social classes and exploitation. During his doctoral studies, he spent the Spring 2023 semester as a visiting scholar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst).
His main research interests include social class, forms of political participation, social theory, and social research methodology. His work aims to contribute to the development of a research paradigm that structurally integrates theoretical and empirical research, with a focus on the study of social power, and that is critically situated within the heterodox neo‑Marxist tradition in the social sciences.
