Research interests in the recent years:
The scientific research covers a number of topics under the
general heading of bioenergetics and in particular it focuses on
aspects of mitochondrial pathophysiology. Specifically the topics
are:
- The role of the endogenous inhibitor protein of F0F1-ATPase
(ATP synthase) in normal and transformed cells
- The pathogenic mechanisms induced by mutations of the
mtDNA
- The expression, stability and catalytic properties of
F0F1-ATPase and Cytochrome c Oxidase in aging and Alzheimer's
disease
- Ischemia and hypoxia in mitochondrial physiology and
pathology
- Cellular bioenergetics and metabolism in normal and cancer
cells.
- Autors of more than 150 scientific papers, most of whichi on international journals with peer reviewers, and recognised by ISI, Scopus and so on. Actively attended more than 150 National and International Scientific Meetings, where in many cases an invited talk was delivered and/or He was designed as a chairman of a session.
