PhD student, 41st cycle of the PhD programme in Drug Discovery and Development, FaBiT Department, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.

Working in the Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology Unit, under the supervision of Professor Andrea Bedini and co-supervision of Professor Monica Baiula.

 

Research activities

November 2025 – ongoing. The research carried out during the first year of the PhD took place at the Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology Unit, FaBiT Department, under the supervision of Professor Andrea Bedini and co-supervision of Professor Monica Baiula. The research focused on the study of crosstalk between the opioid receptor μ (MOR) and the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and the effects of co-treatments with opioids and cannabinoids.

February 2025 – September 2025. Visiting researcher for Master’s research internship and thesis in the Nanomedicine group of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. Master Thesis’ title “Surface-modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles for targeted glioblastoma therapy: from synthesis to 3D tumour model testing”.

Internal UniBo supervisor: Prof. Paolo Blasi.

Hosting institute supervisor: Prof. Eduardo Ruiz-Hernandez.

March 2023 – July 2023. Bachelor’s internship and thesis in the Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology Unit, FaBiT Departmen, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Bologna. Bachelor Thesis title “Analysis of transcription factors involved in antitumoral effect of omega-3 fatty acids on medulloblastoma cells (Analisi di fattori di trascrizione coinvolti nell'effetto antitumorale di acidi grassi omega-3 in cellule di medulloblastoma)”.

Poster title “At the interface between pain, stress and addiction: endomorphin-1 analogues targeting kappa opioid (KOR) and nociceptin opioid peptide (NOPr) receptors as novel research tools and potential innovative therapeutics”.

September 2025. Best poster presentation award at the 44th All-Ireland Schools of Pharmacy conference 2025, Cork, Ireland. Poster title “Development and biological evaluation of cell penetrating peptide-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles for glioblastoma therapy”.

May 2025. Best presentation and funniest presentation at the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Blitz, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. Oral presentation title “MSN: Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles or Matryoshka Spongy Navy? How to scare glioblastoma”.

October 2024. Winner of the 2024 “Thesis Abroad Study Grant for the Preparation of the Thesis Abroad”, assigned by FaBiT Department, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.
