Dr. Antonaros conducts her research at the Department of Histology, Embryology, and Applied Biology (DIBINEM), University of Bologna. Her scientific research focuses on the study of trisomy 21, in particular the correlation between genotype (three copies of chromosome 21) and phenotype (Down syndrome), using molecular and computational biology methods. Collaboration with the Neonatology Unit, Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi, and approval by the Ethics Committee (AVEC) of the project “Correlation between genotype and phenotype in trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)” led to the collection of biological samples (plasma and urine) for metabolomic analysis. The critical analysis of the results obtained from the various analyses aims to characterize intergenic regions present on chromosome 21, clarify the pathogenesis of Down syndrome, and identify a therapeutic target.
