Paleoecologia e paleobiogeografia, in particolare di dinosauri ed altri vertebrati mesozoici associati; variazione della biodiversità delle faune a vertebrati in relazione ai cambiamenti ambientali e climatici; stratigrafia e sedimentologia applicata allo studio di giacimenti a vertebrati; sedimentologia, stratigrafia e stratigrafia sequenziale di successioni continentali; applicazioni di tecnologie laser 3D e fotogrammetriche allo studio di reperti fossili; documentazione scientifica a supporto dello sviluppo di geositi ad interesse paleontologico; museologia e storia della paleontologia.

2023 / 2027 PI, five-year agreement with the Institute of Paleontology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences for the ‘Nemegt Educational Expeditions’ project to promote research on Mongolian dinosaur and geoheritage (4 weeks of field activities per year)

2022 / present PI, Accordo Quadro with Elettra Sincrotrone Facility, partners. Dip. BiGeA (UniBo), Dip. Matematica e Geoscienze (UniTs), Zoic s.r.l. (Ts), Elettra Sincrotrone (Ts). X-ray μCT and diffraction analyses on fossil remains.

2011 / 2013 PI: field activities in the Lebap Province, eastern Turkmenistan. Prospecting activities and acquisition of high-resolution data and 3D images from two dinosaur tracksites (four field campaigns). Chair, UNESCO committee for the institution of the Lebap Geosite formal candidacy.

2010 Field activities (crew) in the Yukon-Charlie River National Park (Alaska, U.S.A.) for the ‘Late Cretaceous terrestrial ecosystem of the ancient arctic of Alaska and Canada’ project.

2009 / 2015 PI: field activities in southern Tunisia (Tataouine region) in collaboration with the Integrated Geoscience Research Group of Ravenna (IGRG), and the Office des Mines (Tunis) 2009 PI: field activities (including prospecting and sampling) in the Chihuahua state, Mexico, for ‘The Chihuahua state GeoPark’ project

2007 and 2010 field activities (crew) in the Nemegt Basin, southern Mongolia. Preparation of vertebrate specimens and acquisition of data with 3D laser scan.

2005 / 2016 coordinator, field activities (including prospecting, sampling, and acquisition of fossil remains) in the Grande Prairie region (Alberta, Canada) and Tumbler Ridge district (British Columbia, Canada) for the Ph.D. research project and for the ‘Dinosaur and Palaeoenvironments of the Wapiti Formation, Alberta’ project (two field campaign per year).

2004 Crew, ‘Late Cretaceous Dinosaur Stratigraphy and Environments of Alberta’ project, in west-central Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, in collaboration with the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology.
