Academic discipline: CHIM/12 Chemistry for the Environment and for Cultural Heritage

Research

Keywords: Life Cycle Assessment Industrial Ecology Poly/Per-flouroalkyl substances (PFAS) Industrial wastewater treatment Circular economy, waste treatment and valorization

The PhD student is mainly involved in environmental impact assessments using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. He has carried out studies and analyses of this kind in various fields and sectors:

- laboratory tests for PFAS abatement techniques on landfill leachates;

- treatment plants for industrial wastewater and full-scale landfill leachates; (Manuscript in progress)

- bio-based and fossil-based materials for flooring in the naval sector;

- plastic and rubber materials for the manufacturing sector; (Manuscript in progress)

- valorisation of biomass waste for the production of cosmetics;

- valorisation of paper and cardboard production waste for the production of basic chemicals;

The PhD student has also investigated other research topics such as

- innovative techniques at the laboratory, pilot and plant scale for the abatement of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in liquid matrices and sewage sludge;

- stardand and innovative methodologies for calculating the carbon stored, absorbed and released by bio-based products along their life cycle; (Manuscript in progress)

- distribution of regional and local environmental impacts along international supply chains;

- analysis of environmental impacts in electronic devices (smartphones): trends, evolution of impacts, related characteristics; (Manuscript in progress)

- impacts of metals supply chain and market (University of California); (Manuscript in progress)

- development of an environmental sustainability assessment framework for High-Entropy Alloy (HEA) (University of California); (Manuscript in progress)
