He has been Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering in the departmente of Industrial Chemistry since October 2021.
He graduated in Chemical Engineering in 2010 at the University of Pisa, discussing his Master’s thesis entitled “Gas Liquid Hydrodynamics in Taylor Flows with Complex Liquids”, carried out at the University of Pisa and the University of Birmingham (UK).
In 2014, he obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a doctoral thesis entitled “Blending of Non-Newtonian Fluids in Static Mixers: Assessment Via Optical Methods”, conducted at the University of Birmingham (UK) and sponsored by Johnson Matthey (JM).
After two years as a researcher at the University of Birmingham (UK), within the Department of Chemical Engineering, working on an Innovate UK project in collaboration with Johnson Matthey (JM) and Unilever, he was appointed Assistant Professor in October 2016.
He currently holds an honorary position at the University of Birmingham in the Department of Chemical Engineering as Associate Professor.
In 2010, he obtained the professional qualification as an Engineer and was registered with the Italian Board of Industrial Engineers.
In 2021, he obtained the Chartered Chemical Engineer qualification (IChemE) in the United Kingdom.
His scientific activity is mainly focused on the experimental characterization of systems and equipment relevant to the chemical and process industries. Experimental work is primarily based on the use of non-intrusive measurement techniques (PIV, PLIF, ERT, PA). Collaborations have also been established on several topics with colleagues from other universities and foreign institutions.
He received the following recognition for his scientific activity:
- Young Researcher Award 2018 from the Working Party on Mixing of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
He is a guest member of the Working Party on Mixing of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering and the corresponding IChemE (UK) group.
He is a member of the scientific committee of numerous international conferences (ISMIP, European Conference on Mixing, NAMF). He also serves as referee for scientific journals including: Chemical Engineering Journal, AIChE Journal, Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering & Processing, Chemical Engineering Research & Design, Chemical Engineering Science, and Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.
Since 2014, he has participated in numerous research projects funded by EPSRC and Innovate UK (UK Council) concerning the research topics mentioned above, and has acted as coordinator and scientific lead for several research projects funded by private organizations.
He is co-author of more than 60 publications in scientific journals and international conference proceedings
