EIT CLIMATE KIC ALUMNI MICRO AWARD 2021

“Burn the Fear!” project: awareness campaign towards students and local population regarding the problem of the Xylella fastidiosa disease which affects the olive trees in Salento Peninsula (Puglia, Italy). An open-air laboratory was created involving the students of the high school “I.I.S.S. V.Bachelet” Copertino, (Puglia, Italy).
Main activities realized:
- open-air lab where new varieties of olive trees resistant to Xylella Fastidiosa were planted by students with the help of technicians;
- in-presence/online lectures explaining the importance of protecting the territory in which they live. Contents: What is Climate KIC? What is Xylella fastidiosa and new ways to fight it. What is the climate change and what is its relationship with Xylella fastidiosa? The importance of olive trees in Salento. Respect for nature/life.
- Awareness campaign to the local population: Creation of a logo, Instagram, Facebook pages, Twich channel.
- Presentation of the project to Climate KIC community.
