Elena Bacchelli graduated with honors in Medical Biotechnology
at the University of Bologna in 2000, carrying out research on the
methylation analysis of two imprinted candidate genes for
autism.
From 2001 to 2004 she trained as a PhD student at the University
of Bologna under the supervision of Prof. Elena Maestrini. During
this time she gained experience in human molecular genetics and she
was involved in the characterization of a susceptibility locus for
autism on chromosome 2q31-q33. In 2004 she obtained the PhD degree
in Cell Biology and Physiology and from 2004 to 2012 she worked as
post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Elena Maestrini at
the University of Bologna and her research activity has focused on
the molecular genetics of autism. During her Ph.D and the years as
post-doctoral fellow, she spent several training periods in the
laboratory of Prof. Anthony Monacoat the Wellcome Trust Centre for
Human Genetics in Oxford, UK.
In 2007 she obtained the Professional Master 2nd level degree in
Biostatistics at the University of Bologna.
Since September 2012 she has been appointed as Research
Associate in Genetics at the Faculty of Science, University of
Bologna.
Since October 2019 she has been appointed as lecturer (associate professor) in Genetics at the Dept of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, University of Bologna.
