Diego Marazza

Fixed-term Researcher in Tenure Track L. 79/2022

Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi"

Academic discipline: PHYS-06/A Physics for Life Sciences, Environment, and Cultural Heritage

Short Bio

He studies how to transform carbon flows in order to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through biomass. Using environmental physical modelling (system dynamics, linear algebra and life cycle assessment), he studies the feasibility and cost-benefit analysis of the relationships between biomass use, soil, land management, industrial systems, and carbon management within the conceptual framework he calls Integrated Biomass Carbonization and Removal Systems (iBCRS). He leads the Environmental Management Research Group and is managing director of the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Waste Valorisation and Future Energy Supply at University of Bologna (FIP-WE@UNIBO), where the complementary mission focuses on second-generation carbons and technological solutions within the iBCRS framework for carbon management. He is the DIFA scientific lead for the EIC Pathfinder MOJITO project, coordinated by the University of Bologna, and a member of the European Commission's Mission Soil Board.
