Short Bio

Debora Barnabè is a PhD candidate in Women's and Gender Studies (EDGES) at the University of Bologna and she is affiliated researcher and PhD candidate at the Research Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON) of the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University (The Netherlands). Her research interests include women’s and gender studies and the history of English Catholic women religious in the early modern period. Her PhD thesis investigates the religious writings of the seventeenth-century English Benedictine nuns, Gertrude More (1606-33) and Barbara Constable (1617–84) from a feminist perspective on religious women’s agency and on mysticism and gender. During her PhD she spent a six-month research period at Utrecht University and she is part of a double doctoral degree programme between Bologna and Utrecht.
