Full Professor at the University of Bologna since 2016, he conducts research in mechanical design, structural analysis, and industrial product design. His main interests include additive manufacturing, friction joints, and both traditional and innovative shaft–hub couplings. Currently, his work focuses on the static and dynamic (fatigue) strength of connections and components made from advanced materials.
Actively involved in national and international research projects, he collaborates with leading Italian and European scientific societies. He serves as Editor of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and has authored more than 200 scientific publications.
He is the recipient of the Robert Hooke Award from the European Society for Experimental Mechanics (EuraSEM) and holds a patent. He chaired the Mechanics and Materials in Design International Conference in 2019 and the ICEM21 International Conference on Experimental Mechanics in 2025. In the same year, he was named Bologna Ambassador 2025 and elected President of EuraSEM.
