I am an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Bologna and a practicing pediatrician at the Pediatric Unit of the IRCCS Policlinico di Sant’Orsola in Bologna, Italy. My clinical and research activities focus on general pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, emergency medicine, and pediatric palliative care.
I have a strong background in pediatric hematology and oncology and hold a PhD in Oncology and Experimental Pathology. My doctoral research investigated the role of the gut microbiota in children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Over the years, I have developed research interests in environmental health, particularly the impact of air pollution on pediatric respiratory diseases, as well as the role of the microbiota in childhood health and disease. More recently, my work has focused on the respiratory microbiota in acute pediatric illnesses and on the application of artificial intelligence tools to clinical practice and medical research.
