Full Professor from 2002 and from 2007 to 2025 at the University of Bologna, he deals with painting from the 14th to the 17th century, mainly in the Emilia-Romagna area, with particular attention to the 14th century Bolognese and Rimini, the Late Gothic and Renaissance in Bologna, the late Mannerist and the Carracci reform.
