Research Interests
Strabismus and amblyopia, clinical psyco-physics, paediatric
ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, extraocular muscle forces
recording, experimental strabismus, skeletal muscle-specific
immunotoxins.
Prof. Schiavi published around 200 papers (IF: 80).
The most relevant scientific contributions are in the area of
sensory anomalies in strabismus, pharmacologic treatment of
amblyopia, botulinum toxin and skeletal muscle-specific
immunotoxins, nystagmus, extraocular muscle tension recordings, and
surgical approaches for ocular motility disorders. Dr. Schiavi has
been visiting professor in Belgium in 2000. He attended the
Karolinska Institutet of Stokholm, Sweden, in 2002. He has been
official speaker in more than 30 International meetings on
strabismus and amblyopia. Prof. Schiavi served as Council member of
the International Strabismological Association from 2005 to 2022 and he
was Secretary-Treasurer of the European Strabismological
Association from 2003 to 2013. Prof.. Schiavi served as
Secretary/Treasurer of the Associazione Italiana Strabismo (AIS)
from 1998 to 2002 and as President from 2006 to 2008.
