Degree in  1998 in Medicine and Surgery at University of Perugia with honours, in 2004 specialty degree in Pathology at the University of Bologna and in 2008 PhD in Medical Biotechnology, Molecular and Quantitative Diagnostic Pathology Section, at the University of Siena.

January–October 2010: research grants "Senior" at the Department of Hematology and Oncological Sciences "L. and A. Seràgnoli” , University of Bologna; November 2010-October 2014 Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Pathology, Bologna University School of Medicine, Italy. Current position: since November 2014 Associate Professor of Pathology, Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine, Haematopathology section, Bologna University School of Medicine, Bologna, Italy

Since 2010 he is involved in histopathological and molecular diagnosis at Hematopatology Unit, S.Orsola University Hospital, Bologna, Italy.

Currently its research activity focuses on tumours of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues. The main research themes are the study of the tumor microenvironment and the identification of new therapeutic targets and biological prognostic factors, which can be determined by the diagnosis, which can select patients at increased risk for chemotherapy and disease progression. He is author of 114 publications since 2004 (source: PubMed: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=AgostinelliC), 3 chapters of books and numerous abstracts.

He has participated in numerous national and international research programs including: AIRC 5 x 1,000 "Genetics-driven Targeted Management of Lymphoid Malignancies", other grants AIRC, FIRB, AIL, RFO research programs.

He is a member of the Italian Society of Pathology and Cytology (SIAPEC) and a reviewer of international journals such as Clinical Cancer Research, Human Pathology, British Journal of Haematology, Medical Science Monitor, Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention.

Research fellowship: fellowship at Department of Pathology of  the National Institute for the Study and Treatment of Tumours, Milan, (August 2002 - January 2003); visiting scientist at the National Cancer Institute of USA, Bethesda(December 2006); research fellowship at the  Haematopathology Section and Lymph Node Registry, Christian-Albrecht's University, Kiel, Germany (April -May 2009); research fellowship at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Laboratory Science, University of Oxford, UK (July 2009); research fellowship at Department of Histopathology, University College London, London, UK (February 2012 and October 2015).
