Chiara Scissa is a Postdoctoral Researcher in EU Law at the Dept. of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Bologna. As part of the ERC StG project ACCESS, she investigates the role of Courts in shaping access to asylum in Africa also in the context of EU deterrence policies. She is Regional Coordinator for Africa and supervises two National Collaborators on Nigeria, Kenya and Tunisia.
She was a Researcher in the Energy, Climate and Resources Program at the Istituto Affari Internazionali and served as a Research Collaborator at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, where she undertook research activities to understand how Italian Courts interpret climate-environmental factors of migrationas part of the adjudication process. She consulted for EuroMed Rights, IOM and ICMPD and authored reports on climate change and migration.
She received her PhD in Law cum laude from Scuola Sant'Anna, where she specialized in disaster displacement in international refugee law and EU asylum law.
