Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Bologna, Department of Chemistry “Giacomo Ciamician”.
The research activity falls under Green and Sustainable Chemistry, mainly in the field of the synthesis, properties evaluation and applications of alternative and safe solvents:
- design and synthesis of novel ionic liquids (ILs), deep eutectic solvents (DES) and switchable polarity solvents (SPS);
- assessment of environmental impact, (eco)-toxicity, cytotoxicity and biodegradability of chemicals and materials;
- application of sustainable solvents as media for organo-catalysis and biocatalysis;
- application of sustainable solvents as media for extracting biomolecules: 3rd generation biofuels; bioactive compounds from terrestrial biomass, algae and corals; bioplastics from bacteria;
- development of green processes in the fields of material recycling and cultural heritage;
- development of anti-urease formulations for applications in the agricultural field.
