Cecilia Metra is Full Professor of Electronics at the University of Bologna, where she has been working since 1991. She received the Laurea in Electronic Engineering (summa cum laude) and the PhD in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. She was President of the School of Engineering at the University of Bologna and, in 2002, she was a Visiting Faculty Consultant for Intel Corporation (in the US).

She is a member of the Board of Directors of DANIELI & C. Officine Meccaniche S.p.A. (October 2021-present). She is 2026-2025 IEEE Director, Division VIII, and was 2023-2022 IEEE Director, Division V, and 2019 President of the IEEE Computer Society.

She published extensively on reliable, safe, secure circuits/systems, trustworthy AI, design for test, photovoltaic systems, and emerging technologies. Her research received public and private funding (e.g., from the EU, Italian Ministries, Intel Corporation, STMicroelectronics, Alstom Transport, Thales, etc.).

She is an IEEE Fellow.
