Building Engineer, PhD in Architecture from the University of Bologna under a co-direction with Université Paris-Est, with a PhD degree recognised in both Italy and France, and Researcher in Tenure-Track at the Department of Architecture (DA), Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna (UNIBO).
Through her study and research experience abroad in the field of Architectural Engineering, her academic background is oriented towards the enhancement of cultural heritage, the recovery of local traditional construction techniques, the rehabilitation and conservation of the historic built environment, and the structural improvement and energy refurbishment of recent building stock according to a sustainable and circular approach. She has conducted research on these topics, published scientific contributions, and presented her work at national and international conferences and seminars.
Education
She graduated with honours in Building Engineering-Architecture in March 2011. She then completed a PhD in Architecture at the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, under a cotutelle agreement with Université Paris-Est, under the supervision of Professors Riccardo Gulli and Maurizio Brocato. In May 2015, she was awarded a PhD degree recognised in both Italy and France.
As part of her doctoral studies, she carried out research activities at the Laboratoire GSA – Géométrie, Structure, Architecture of the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais (ENSAPM), under the supervision of Professor Joël Sakarovitch.
Academic Career
From June 2012 to August 2014, she was a Research Fellow (L. 240/2010) at the CIRI – Interdepartmental Centre for Industrial Research in Building and Construction of the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Professor Annarita Ferrante. Within this appointment, focused on “Innovative construction techniques for the sustainable renovation of recent building stock”, she conducted studies and research on the formulation of design criteria and technical solutions for the sustainable refurbishment of recent building stock, with specific attention to the use of eco-compatible solutions aimed at improving the energy performance of the building envelope and based on the dry assembly of lightweight prefabricated components.
From November 2014 to March 2015, she held a collaboration contract within the Horizon 2020 programme (DGR 22/2014), funded by the FESR 2007–2013 Operational Programme of the Emilia-Romagna Region, at the CIRI Building and Construction of UNIBO.
From 2015 to 2019, she worked as an adjunct lecturer and teaching tutor within ICAR/10 courses for the Degree Programmes in Building Engineering-Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Advanced Design.
From August 2019 to September 2021, she was a Research Fellow (L. 240/2010) at the DA - UNIBO, within the Horizon 2020 project “DRIVE 0 – Driving Decarbonization of the EU building stock by enhancing a consumer-centred and locally based circular renovation process”, under the supervision of Professor Annarita Ferrante. Within this appointment, she served as Local Pilot Leader for the Italian case study, the “Villa Cuccoli” residential complex located in Argelato, Bologna, owned by Fondazione Carisbo.
From September 2021 to February 2025, she was a Junior Fixed-Term Researcher (RTD-A) at the Department of Architecture, University of Bologna, with a research project entitled “Performance and functional upgrading of the second half of the twentieth-century building stock in Italy”.
Since February 2025, she has been a Researcher in Tenure-Track at the Department of Architecture, University of Bologna, within the research programme “Digital protocols for decision support in building stock refurbishment interventions”, addressing the research needs of the Department of Architecture.
In June 2021, she obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for the position of Associate Professor in the Academic Discipline Field 08/C1 – Design and Technological Planning of Architecture.
Teaching Activity
Since 2011, she has collaborated with the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, taking part in research projects and teaching activities related to the following courses: “Integrated Sustainable Design” for the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Building Engineering-Architecture; “Architectural Engineering T-1 with Laboratory” for the Degree Programme in Architecture-Engineering; “Architectural Engineering 2 with Laboratory M” for the Master’s Degree Programme in Building Engineering-Architecture; “Architectural Engineering I with Laboratory” and “Architectural Engineering II with Laboratory” for the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Building Engineering-Architecture; “Architectural Engineering”, as part of the integrated course “Product-Service Design Laboratory”, for the Degree Programme in Advanced Design; and “Drawing and CAD Laboratory T” for the Degree Programme in Civil Engineering.
She has also delivered lectures for the PhD Programme in Architecture and Design Cultures at the University of Bologna.
Since 2022, she has been a lecturer in the Second-Level Professional Master’s Programme / Advanced Training Course “SIMUR – Sustainable and Integrated Mobility in Urban Regions”, organised by DICAM – University of Bologna, at the Bologna and Imola campuses, within the teaching area “Urban regeneration: experiences and research projects”.
Scientific Activity
She is currently involved in the research activities of the European project “Re-Value – Re-Valuing Urban Quality & Climate Neutrality in European Waterfront Cities” (Horizon Europe, NEB – New European Bauhaus; Coordinator: Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet), started in 2022.

For the Department of Architecture, since 2024 she has served as Delegate for Communication, Guidance, Website, and Editorial Activities, and as Delegate for the Almae Matris Alumni Association.
Since 2025, she has also served as contact person for the fields of “Architecture” and “Cultural Heritage” within the University of Bologna group involved as a Core Partner in EIT Culture & Creativity, the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) promoted by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
Since 2024, she has been a member of the Committee for Third Mission, Public Engagement, Relations with Local Institutions, and Lifelong Learning of the Department of Architecture, University of Bologna, Bologna Campus.
Since 2022, she has been a member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Department of Architecture, University of Bologna, for the Degree Programme in Architecture-Engineering and the Master’s Degree Programme in Building Engineering-Architecture.
For the Degree Programme in Architecture-Engineering at the University of Bologna, since 2024 she has been part of the group of lecturers involved in the POT project, “POT_Architettura” – Orientation and Tutoring Plans, with IUAV University of Venice as lead institution.
Since 2023, she has been a member of the Internship Committee for the Degree Programme in Architecture-Engineering.

Other Activities
Since 2015, she has been Coordinator of the Editorial Committee of the journal TEMA: Technologies, Engineering, Materials and Architecture, ISSN 2421-4574. TEMA, the scientific journal of Ar.Tec. – Scientific Association for the Promotion of Relations between Architecture and Building Techniques, promotes studies and research in the field of construction history, methods, and technologies aimed at building innovation and building rehabilitation. TEMA is classified as a Class A journal for CUN Area 08 – Architecture, and as a scientific journal for CUN Areas 10, 11, 13, and 14.
Since 2019, she has served as an expert member of the State Examination Board for professional qualification as Engineer, Sections A and B, at the University of Bologna, in the field of Building Engineering-Architecture, subject area: Architecture.
