Research areas.
- Experimental investigations on
psychophysiology of sleep
and dreaming were carried out since 1973 to present at Sleep Laboratory of
Department of Psychology of the University of Bologna, at Unit 3 of
INSERM (Hopital H. Rousselle, Paris) from 1974 to 1977, at
Laboratory of Cognitive Psychophysiology at University of Modena
(Department of Biomedical Sciences) from 1988 to 1994.
The main topics investigated were
the relationships between sleep and the functioning of cognitive
processes during sleep and in subsequent waking; the production and
recall of mental activities elaborated during REM and NREM sleep in
healthy adults and in patients with cerebro-vascular diseases,
Parkinson's disease or
focal epilepsy; the off-line processing of pre-sleep verbal stimuli
during REM and NREM sleep; the consolidation effect of the
re-processing of pre-sleep verbal stimuli incorporated into
contents of mental activities during REM sleep.
- Psychometric assessment of
both cognitive deficits and their reversibility after
pharmacological or rehabilitative treatment in the
elderly;
- Verbal and non-verbal
communication processes in clinical contexts.
Professor Cipolli is author of about 200 papers, mainly
published on international peer-reviewed journals, and about 250 presentations during
national and international conferences.
Professor Cipolli is member of the Editorial
Board of “Aging. Clinical and Experimental Research”
