Research

Keywords: Large-Eddy Simulation · Turbulence · Conjugate Heat Transfer

Research topics include:

  • Study of thermal slope winds, such as anabatic or upslope flows, through numerical simulations coupled with experimental measurements in the real field or laboratory
  • Effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions to help remove pollutants in the urban environment and improve thermal comfort. These include in particular green solutions (trees) and blue solutions (ponds and urban rivers). Activities within the national PRIN project GREEN-POLIS.
  • Investigation of the urban heat island with simulations and low-cost diffuse sensing. Experimental study with numerical modelling on the city of Bologna for the EU projects I-CHANGE and TRIGGER
  • Multiscale dynamic downscaling, from climate projections to mesoscale models and fluid dynamics simulations at the building scale. As part of the Horizon EU RISKADAPT project.

Recently interested in the contamination between computational fluid dynamics and meteorology: study of convective supercells and extreme weather events by means of high-resolution simulations.
