Short Bio

Antonio Parenti is the Representative of the European Commission in Italy under the political authority of President von der Leyen. From 2015 to 2020, he served as Minister Counsellor and Head of the Economic, Trade, and Development Section of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations, where he led important EU negotiations for the implementation of the Agenda 2030 objectives and served as the European Chief Negotiator for the Global Compact on Migration. Previously, he was the Deputy Chief Negotiator for the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement and Head of the unit at the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission, responsible for relations with China and the Far East. From 2007 to 2009, he was Vice President of Severstal International with responsibilities for international relations. In his academic career, Antonio Parenti obtained a Master's degree in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, a Master's degree in Community Law, and a Degree in Law from the University of Bologna.
