Short Bio

Dr Antonio Costa is a Senior Researcher at the INGV - Sezione di Bologna, where he was also the Director from 2019 to 2022.

He received his Degree in Physics at the University of Pisa and the PhD in Environmental Physics from the University of Bologna in 2004. During his PhD he spent 6 months at The Open University, UK, in the framework of an EU RTN program. In 2005-2006 he was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Bristol, where he was also a honorary research visitor from 2007 to 2010. From 2007 to 2010 he was a Staff Researcher at the Osservatorio Vesuviano, Napoli, Italy. From 2011 to 2012 he was at the University of Reading, UK on leave from INGV. During 2015 he was on sabbatical leave at The University of Tokyo, Japan. In May - June 2019 he was Visiting Researcher at the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany, in the framework of the Center for Advanced Studies program. For his scientific achievements has been awarded the IAVCEI Wager Medalist in 2013. From 2021 is Member of Academia Europaea.
