Antonio Bertin held a tenure in
Physics since 1984 atthe Faculty of Engineering of the
Bologna University, where he was a lecturer since 1967. His
scientific activity mainly concerns experimental research in
nuclear and particle physics carried out in major European
Laboratories [CERN (CH), CCR EURATOM (Ispra, I), CEA (Saclay, F),
Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory (Reading, UK), DESY (Hamburg, D)].
He is the author/coauthor of more than three hundred papers on
scientific journals. In charge of national and international
responsibilities, he was
(i) group leader of experiments supported by INFN (Istituto
Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) since 1974;
(ii) chairman of the INFN III National Scientific Committee from
1993 to 1999;
(iii) emeritus fellow of the Italian Physical Society;
(iv)Italian representative in a number of international
scientific boards, such as the CERN SC and PSSC Committees, the
Nuclear Physics Board of the European Physical Society (where he
served as scientific secretary), the Nuclear Physics group of the
OECD Megascience Forum, the EU "Frontiers in Nuclear Physics" Round
Table;
(v) coordinator (from 2001 to 2006) of the five INFN Working
Groups on the evaluation of research and appointed in
front of the Research Ministry evaluating body (CIVR) as the
official INFN representative for the triennial evaluation exercise
(VTR) 2001-2003.
(vi) a collaborator of Istituto dell' Enciclopedia Italiana,
Editor of the journal "Nuclear Physics News-International", Topical
Editor of the international Physics journal "Il Nuovo Cimento A",
Vice-Director of the journal "Il Nuovo Saggiatore" of the Italian
Physical Society and a member of the scientific Committee of the
journal "Nuova Civiltà delle Macchine";
(vii) INFN representative within the program Committee foreseen by
the INFN-ENEA agreement called "Convenzione Quadro".
(viii) chairman of the 02 Committee for Physical Sciences at the
Bologna University.
(ix) member of the INFN Scientific Coordination Committee (CSS).
(x) member of the PE2 Panel (Fundamental Constituents of Matter)
for the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant;
(xi) he also collaborated to scientific diffusion
initiatives directed to public at large, and is the author of
textbooks for university teaching and history of science.
