Anna Di Ronco is Associate Professor at the Department of Legal Studies at the University of Bologna. She has a legal background and holds a PhD in criminology from Ghent University (Belgium). Before joining the University of Bologna, she worked at the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Essex (UK) where she was also Director of its Centre for Criminology. She remains affiliated with the University of Essex having been awarded the title of Honorary Senior Lecturer.
Anna serves as an at-large Board Member of the European Society of Criminology (ESC) and as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Criminology (EJC). She has also served on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Criminology.
Anna's research critically examines dynamics of control, discipline, and exclusion in the city, as well as bottom-up practices of resistance grounded in care and participation. Anna’s recent work also addresses the criminalisation of dissent and activism, with a particular focus on environmental activism. Her criminological scholarship is sociologically oriented and draws primarily on critical and green criminology.
