I am permanent researcher at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) of the National Research Council (CNR) where I am the co-head of the Semantic Technology Laboratory (STLab). I obtained my PhD in Computer Science in 2014 at the University of Bologna studying methodologies and software architectures for the extraction of Knowledge Patterns from the Web.
My research interests include ontology design, linked data, the Semantic Web, knowledge extraction from heterogeneous formats, natural language reading, and social and assistive robotics.
I was involved as a researcher in the project Interactive Knowledge Stack (IKS) (IP EU FP7). The goal of IKS was the design and implementation of an open source framework aimed at providing reusable semantic components to Content Management System. The main outcome of IKS was the Apache Stanbol software.
I carried out research activities within the project project H2020 MARIO. MARIO was focused on the study and construction of a robotic platform for the support of elderly people with dementia. In MARIO I was task leader for the design of the Ontology Network that organises and manages the knowledge of the robot.
I am currently the scientific manager for ISTC-CNR of the Water Health Open knoWledge (WHOW) 2019-EU-IA-0089 (EU CEF Telecom - Public Open Data) project aimed at designing and implementing a framework to promote the creation of a vast ecosystem of data on water consumption and quality, sanitary parameters and the spread of diseases to be reused for advanced analysis and development of innovative services.
I am the scientific manager for ISTC-CNR as part of the agreement with the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) with the aim of studying, designing and implementing the knowledge graph of Italian environmental data.
I am the coordinator of the technical panel activated and aimed at drafting and perfecting the specification documents to be included in the tender specifications, provided for in the Developing nAtional and Regional Infrastructural nodes of dAriaH in ITaly (DARIAH) project (PON I&R PIR01_00022).
I was principal the investigator of the project "Measuring the Impact of Research: Alternative Indicators" (MIRA) funded by the Italian National Evaluation Agency of the University and Research System (ANVUR) under the theme "Methods research evaluation" of the program "Research Ideas".
I was the scientific coordinator for ISTC-CNR of the collaboration agreement with the Digital Innovation Team of the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers aimed at designing and implementing the network of ontologies of the Italian Public Administration known as OntoPiA.
I was the scientific coordinator for ISTC-CNR of the TURBO project (number of CNR 861 protocol of 18/03/2016) for the research and development of an engine semantic for the classification of web contents based on machine learning in the context of programmatic advertising.
I have published more than 80 scientific articles (Source Scopus) on ontology design, linked data, knowledge mining, machine reading and sentiment analysis in international journals, conferences and workshops.
I am a member of the Semantic Web and Ontology Engineering conference and workshop program committees. I am member of the editorial board of Information. In addition, I am a reviewer of scientific journals such as the Semantic Web Journal or the Journal of Web Semantics.
I am co-founder of BUP Srl, an innovative start-up dedicated to the design and implementation of solutions for the creation and management of knowledge graphs.
