Alessia Barzotti is a PhD candidate in Physics at the University of Bologna, where she is carrying out a research project in collaboration with SACMI focused on the study and characterization of cellulose-based materials for sustainable packaging applications. Her research activity is mainly oriented toward the investigation of surface, microstructural, and functional properties of materials, with particular attention to the development of solutions that may be transferred to industrial applications.
During her PhD, she also completed a six-month research stay at TU Darmstadt in Germany, where she worked on the development and characterization of cellulose-based materials with water and water-vapor barrier properties. This experience enabled her to work in an international research environment and to broaden her expertise in experimental approaches for materials characterization.
She holds a Master’s degree in Physics, specializing in Materials Physics and Nanoscience, from the University of Bologna. As part of her Master’s thesis, she investigated multi-element Mg-based complex hydrides for hydrogen storage and carried out part of the experimental work at ICMPE-CNRS in Paris through an Erasmus traineeship. She previously obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, with a thesis focused on the characterization of WO₃ photoanodes using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and photocurrent measurements.
Her academic and professional background has enabled her to develop a strong foundation in materials physics, experimental characterization techniques, and data analysis, together with experience in applied research and collaboration with industrial partners. She has also gained teaching experience as a tutor for the Laboratory 1 course at the University of Bologna, covering the optical properties of semiconductors and energy-gap measurements.
Her profile is particularly suited to roles combining scientific and technical expertise with experimental activities, problem solving, technology development, and collaboration with industrial teams.
