Prof. Alessandra Tolomelli obtained the degree in
Chemistry in 1994 at the University of Bologna, discussing a thesis
on the preparation of 2-hydroxy-3-amino acids from chiral
perhydropyrimidinones, working under the supervision of Porf.
Giuliana Cardillo.
From 1995 to 1998 she worked as Ph.D. student in the same research
group. In 1997 she spent a period at the University of California,
Santa Cruz (UCSC), working in the Organic Chemistry Lab of the
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, under the supervision of
Prof. Joseph Konopelski. In 1999 she obtained the Ph.D. title
presenting a thesis on the synthesis of polifunctionalized
bioactive compounds. In 1999 she worked at the Centre for
Macromolecular Physics with a fellowship sponsored by C.N.R. In the
same year she obtained a permanent position as graduate technician
at the Department of Chemistry “G.Ciamician” of the University of
Bologna. In 2007 she baceme associate researcher in the same department and then in 2018 she became associate professor. Her main research interests are focused on
the synthesis of bioactive peptidomimetics as receptor ligands
(integrins ), antibiotics and antiinflammatory agents, using asymmetric synthesis and biocatalysis. Great attention is devoted in the development of green technologies for the synthesis of bioactive oligopeptides and oligonucleotides. She is coauthor of about 90 publications, including some reviews. She is involved in several national and international research projects and she has established collaborations with private companies.
