Alberto Grassetti is an architect and PhD in Architecture and Design Cultures. He graduated on 03/23/2022 with honors in Building Engineering-Architecture from Ama Mater Studiorum University of Bologna with a thesis in architectural and urban composition entitled “Elements for a city of limits. The case study of Pesaro” carried out together with the supervisor Prof. Matteo Agnoletto.

He was the winner in 2022 of a doctoral fellowship funded by the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna and the Renzo Piano Foundation with the theme “The Redevelopment of the Porto Antico of Genoa. Projects, archive, future prospects”.

Currently, in addition to his research activities as a doctoral student, he collaborates with Prof. Matteo Agnoletto as a design tutor in the Architecture and Architectural Composition I course of the Degree in Architecture-Engineering at the University of Bologna. Grassetti has been a guest researcher at the Department of Architecture at the University of Technology in Delft and collaborates with the PortCityFutures research group.

His research focuses on the study of architectural and urban phenomena of the city, with particular reference to marginal conditions and to the laminal systems of urban thresholds. Among his fields of investigation, the study of urban waterfronts and the conditions of coexistence between aquatic, port-related, and urban dimensions constitutes a primary area of interest. Grassetti is also a member of the research group Laboratorio Emilia, which focuses on issues related to the design of the plain landscape.
