Keywords: inherent safety chemical plant land use planning process and plant design fireproofing process safety resilience sustainability oil & gas offshore cyber security security biomass

Main research topics:

1) Sustainability implementation in plant and process design

-  Development of indicators (KPI) and metrics, based on flow-sheet analysis, for the assessment of the sustainability profile of industrial processes

-  Development of advanced methods for normalization and aggregation of indicators, aimed at the integrated implementation of sustainability strategies in process and plant design

- Sustainability assessment of suppy chains for bio-fuels from vegetable biomasses

2) quantitative risk assessment and implementation of inherent safety strategies in process plants

-  Development of quantitative methods for the assessment of inherent safety profile in process and plant design (“conceptual” and “basic design”), based on the analysis of expected consequences of potential accidents

-  Development of strategies and methods for the implementation of inherent safety in plant layout design

-  Safety analysis for land-use planning in major risk areas

-  Safety analysis of hazardous substances, with particular reference to hazardous product formation in runaway reactions and out-of-control conditions

-  Analysis and modelling of the performance of passive fire protection (fireproofing) materials in preventing escalation chains (domino effect)

- Identification of hazards from malicious attacks (security and cyber-security) to process plants
