Raffaella Gherardi was Full Professor of History of
Political Thought in the Faculty of Political Sciences of the
University of Bologna since 1990. She was President of this Faculty
from 1993 to 1996 and Director of the Department of Politics,
Institutions, History from 1998 to 2001. Elected in the Academic
Senate of the University of Bologna as the representative for the
department directors in the Law, Politics, Economics and Statistics
area (1999-2002). From 2003 to 2010 Gherardi was direktor of
International PhD programme "Europe Americas: Constitutions,
Doctrines and Political Institutions" (with branches in Bologna,
Bucarest and Buenos Aires). Raffaella Gherardi's research activity
focuses on three main areas in the hisory of political thought:
Political thought and institutions of the Habsburg Empire between
XVIIth and XVIIIth century; 2) Italian and European liberalism
between XIXth and XXth century; 3) The issue of peace and war in
modern and contemporary Europe.
