Short Bio

Francesca Lagioia is Senior Assistant Professor in Legal Informatics, AI and Law and Ethics for AI, at the University of Bologna and Part-time Professor at the European University Institute, Florence. In November 2020 she obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor (12H3 IUS/20).She has been Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at the EUI. In March 2016, she earned her Ph.D. in Law Science and Technology from the University of Bologna. She has participated in National and European Projects. Currently she is the Principal Investigator for the PRIN2022 project EQUAL (EQUitable Algorithms)— Promoting Fairness and Countering Algorithmic Discrimination through Norms and AI. Her research interests include: AI and law, privacy and data protection, consumer law; AI, Creativity and copyright, AI and Democracy, algorithmic fairness and AI explainability, computable models of legal reasoning, law and automation in socio-technical systems, with a specific focus on normative and deliberative agents and AI and liability.
