EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

2017: Ph.D. in Electrotechnical Engineering (XXIX Cycle) at the University of Bologna; Thesis: Multi-drive powertrain configurations for electric and hybrid vehicles. Supervisor: Prof. Ing. Claudio Rossi.

2011: Electrical Engineering Degree (Master Graduation) at the University of Bologna on June, 14th. Thesis: Implementation of a system for monitoring and diagnostics of sliding bearings. Supervisors: Prof. Ing. Andrea cavallini; Prof. Ing. Gian Carlo Montanari, Ing. Alessandro Zanarini.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

January 2017 – present: Research Fellowship “Control systems development for electric powertrain”
at Interdepartmental Centre for Industrial Research – Advanced Mechanics and Materials “CIRI – MAM”

Participation in “TIME” Project:
Electric powertrain integration in traditional vehicle; HVAC, HMI management, Prototype homologation.
Designation as inventor of European patent 18212905.6 – 1012: “METHOD FOR CONVERTING A VEHICLE WITH AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE INTO AN ELECTRICAL VEHICLE”.

Participation in “Onda Solare – Emilia 4” solar car development:
Battery design (BMS, connections, welding) and test of single cells, modules and battery pack; Vehicle communication bus development; Vehicle log and telemetry system development; Wiring harness design; Lighting system development; Prototype homologation.

Cooperation with “CEM S.p.A.”:
Development of a fully automated test bench for Lithium batteries based on a National Instruments CompactRIO controller, capable of testing single cells as well as battery modules and battery packs. Automatic battery modelling algorithm that uses the test data logs obtained with the test-bench for battery characterization.

January 2014 – December 2016: Ph.D. Scholarship
at Laboratory of Electrical Machines, Drives and Power Electronics for Sustainable Mobility “DEI-LEMAD”

Participation in “AMBER-ULV” FP7 European Project:
Electric powertrain modeling; Vehicle integrated modeling (“AMESIM” training at SIEMENS, formerly LMS-IMAGINE, in Lyon, 2013); MIL-HIL techniques and integration of Matlab-Simulink code in LabVIEW Real-Time (cooperation at SHERPA Engineering in Paris, 2016); Vehicle control; Human-Machine Interface; Low and medium level software development for VCU (LabVIEW RT & FPGA, NI cRIO); Prototype testing.

Member of ONDA SOLARE team, first Italian builder of solar cars for competitions:
VCU calibration for drivability and consumption management; Strategy for solar car competitions; Team work capability (I also was the team captain at several international competitions).

Cooperation with BORDINI ENGINEERING: Specialist farm tractor with Belt-CVT transmission
Control of mechanical transmissions (electro-actuated belt-CVT, on-load shift, controlled clutches); Management of internal combustion engines through industrial protocols (SAE J1939); Design and production of PCB electronic circuits with dedicated CAD software tool; Software development for Vehicle Control Units (LabVIEW Real Time and FPGA, National Instruments rapid prototyping platform “Compact RIO”).

Cooperation with BORDINI ENGINEERING: Specialist farm tractor with Full Hybrid e-CVT transmission
Modeling of Full Hybrid power-split “e-CVT” transmissions (Matlab – Simulink); Modeling of powertrain control algorithm and energy management (Matlab – Simulink); Integration of internal combustion engines and electric drives; Software development for Vehicle Control Units (LabVIEW RT & FPGA, NI cRIO); Automotive communication protocols (CAN Bus).
