Verónica Arcas Pilz is a junior assistant professor at the Dept. of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL), University of Bologna, Italy. She has a degree in Biology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain and a Masters degree in environmental protection and food production from the Universität Hohenheim, Germany. She holds a PhD in environmental sciences which she obtained in the Institute for environmental sciences and technology (ICTA-UAB) within the Sostenipra research group. Her thesis focused on reducing the environmental footprint of urban agricultural production within the framework of the circular economy. Her research activities mainly focus on the search of alternative resources for the sustainable development of urban and peri urban agriculture, contemplating nutrient recovery and water recirculation strategies on a building and city level, as well as the quantification of resource flows and the determination of their environmental impact with the use of tools such as material flow analysis (MFA) and life cycle assessment (LCA).
