My main research interests are:
Cultural and Visual Semiotics
My work focuses on the semiotic theory of culture, particularly through the lens of Juri Lotman and Umberto Eco and the dialogue with Affect Theory and Cultural Studies. I also explore the relationship between the semiotics of images and contemporary visual studies.
Memory and Heritage Studies
I am interested in theories of cultural and collective memory, with a particular focus on how traumatic pasts are rearticulated across various textual genres – such as monuments, museums, documentaries and arts.
Perpetrator Studies
My research addresses key questions such as: How are perpetrators of crimes against humanity represented across different media, political, and cultural contexts? What role do they occupy in museums, urban spaces, and artistic discourse? How is the figure of the perpetrator defined within these cultural arenas, especially in relation to other memory subjects such as victims, bystanders, and upstanders?
