Employment history: Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser started her career as a lecturer at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 1993, the year she completed her Ph. D. in econometrics and statistics at the University of Geneva. In 1997, she was hired as lecturer in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (FPSE) of the University of Geneva. Between 1997 and 2001, her position has evolved until she became full professor (50%) in 2001 at HEC-Genève, and from 2018, she has been given a 100% permanent position at the Geneva School of Economics and Management (GSEM). In November 2023, she has been nominated full professor at the - Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche "Paolo Fortunati"- of the University of Bologna.



Awards and grants: While at the University of Geneva, Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser received 3,277,537 CHF of personal research funding (Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and private) for seven projects, and over 500,000 CHF of research funding for collaborative projects. She was awarded the Latzis International Prize (1995) for her Ph. D. Thesis, as well as a doctoral (1991) and a professorial (2000) fellowships from the SNSF. In 2022, she was nominated elected member of the International Statistical Institute.


Research: Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser main research interest is statistical methodology and its application in different domains. She started with the development of robust methods of estimation and inference for application in economics (welfare analysis, risk analysis) and psychology (psychometric). She is also interested in computational statistics and has developed estimation methods for complex models (latent dependence structures, missing data), time series (signal processing), and model selection in high dimensions. Her publications are often co-authored with (former) PhD students or with academic researchers in other universities and/or outside the methodological statistics field. She has published in total eight book chapters, five proceedings, one book and thirty-eight articles in peer-reviewed journals (30 ranked Q1 in Scimago Journal Ranking), of which eleven in one of the four mainstream journals in statistics, two in one of the five mainstream journals in economics.


Teaching and student supervision: Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser set up, taught or organized more than 20 classes, for students enrolled in different programs, such as bachelor (BA), Master (MA), short courses, summer courses, certificates, executive education, and for students with different backgrounds, such as economics, management, psychology, social sciences. She has supervised eleven Ph. D. students; for six of them the research outcome has been published in one of the four mainstream journals in statistics, three have professorial positions and two have research positions in renown universities. She is currently (co-)supervising three Ph. D. students and four postdocs.


Managerial achievements: At the University of Geneva, Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser founded two master programs (in statistics and in business analytics), a Ph. D. program (in statistics), and an institute (the Research Centre for Statistics). She led the creation of the GSEM (2012-2013) and became founding dean (2014-2017). During her mandate, she started the accreditation project for the GSEM, the creation of a chair in Business and Human Rights, and led the setting up of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to support the Master in Business Analytics.
