Work experience

Research Associate at Imperial College London August 2017 - Present
Post-doc researcher working on improving damage tolerance and fracture toughness of carbon fibre composites. Designing, manufacturing, and testing of CFRP specimens with engineered meso and micro structures to control damage initiation and growth.
Various teaching duties, including lecturer for a 1st year undergraduate course in Engineering Design. Assisted in outreach activities during Imperial Festival.
As post-doc rep; represented Department of Aeronautics post-docs to College staff and management and organised social events for Aeronautics post-docs.

Researcher at TU Delft Oct 2016 – July 2017
eModerator for an MSc level course on fatigue and damage tolerance and a professional education course on air safety investigation. Developed and taught a lab-based workshop on fatigue crack growth for professional engineers. Various other teaching and research tasks.

PhD Researcher at TU Delft Oct 2012 –Oct 2016

Conducted independent research into fatigue cracking of adhesive bonds, based on own research proposal. Acted in a variety of teaching roles, including lecturer, and supervisor for group projects and individual research at BSc and MSc thesis level. Invited to teach at University of Bologna as guest lecturer. Presented work at several international conferences and meetings. Research self-funded by a personal grant.

Researcher at TU Delft May 2012 – Oct 2012

Worked on the development of a software toolbox for calculations on fibre metal laminates. Fixed major bugs, adapted methods to the implementation required by the customers and translated customer requirements into instructions for the programmer.

Teaching Assistant at TU Delft Oct 2011-Dec 2011

Assisted during the 1st year materials practical, teaching 1st year students about the tensile test behaviour of aerospace materials. Provided technical assistance for contracted research in the structures and materials laboratory

Internship at Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), Melbourne, Australia Jan 2011 – Apr 2011 Documented full scale fatigue tests performed on F/A-18 centre barrels as part of the FINAL program, producing 2 full reports and documenting all available data on 2 further tests, significantly reducing the documentation back-log. Performed quantitative fractography as part of the FINAL program.
