Curriculum vitae

Idio Guarino is an Assistant Professor (RTDa) within the Mobile Middleware Research Group (MMW) at the University of Bologna (DISI), Italy. He received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering in 2020 and his Ph.D. in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) in 2024 from the University of Naples Federico II, where he also earned the Doctor Europaeus certification. His research path began in collaboration with the Traffic research group at the University of Naples Federico II, where he defended his doctoral thesis titled “Classification and Prediction of Communication and Collaboration Mobile Apps’
Traffic via Deep Learning Approaches: From Data Collection to Models’ Explainability”.


Between 2022 and 2023, he spent a six-month research period at Huawei’s R&D Center in Paris, focusing on few-shot learning for encrypted network traffic classification. In 2021, he was the winner of the “O. Carlini” scholarship, funded by Consortium GARR, for his research on AI-driven analysis of mobile traffic for smart working. Furthermore, his work contributed to the “ADDITIONAL” project, funded by the Vietsch Foundation through GÉANT.

Currently, his research interests include Network Traffic Analysis and Machine Learning for Communication Systems.

He has a proven track record of editorial service, serving as a consistent reviewer for top-tier journals such as IEEE OJ-COMS, TMC, COMMAG, and Elsevier COMNET, as well as a TPC member for major conferences including IEEE WCN and ICMLCN.
