Giorgio Palandri is a highly distinguished neurosurgeon and academic based in Bologna, Italy, with an extensive career dedicated to advancing the field of neurosurgery, particularly in the study and treatment of cerebrospinal fluid disorders. Current Professional & Academic Roles

Since 2004, Dr. Palandri has served as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna (Bellaria Hospital - Azienda USL Bologna). In 2026, he expanded his academic contribution by becoming an Adjunct Professor of Neurosurgery at the prestigious Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna

International Clinical Experience

Dr. Palandri’s expertise has been shaped by his experiences at world-renowned institutions. In 2014, he served as a Visiting Clinician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA, working alongside Prof. G. Lanzino.Earlier in his career, in 2003, he gained valuable international perspective as a Visiting Clinician at Hôpital Lariboisière in Paris, France, under the guidance of Prof. B. George.

Education and Early Career

  • Residency in Neurosurgery: He completed his residency at the University of Verona in 2003, graduating 1st classified with a perfect score of 50/50 cum laude

  • Medical Degree: He earned his General Medical Degree from the University of Parma in 1998, also achieving 110/110 cum laude

Dr. Palandri has received numerous prestigious awards and has held influential leadership positions that underscore his global standing in the neurosurgical field:

  • Italian Knowledge Leader: in Rome on December 15, 2025

  • Ambassador for the City of Bologna (2018)

  • Chair, CSF Disorders Committee: Appointed to lead this committee for the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) starting January 1, 2026

  • President of the Hydrocephalus Society: Elected to this significant role in 2025

  • President of the Xth World Meeting on Hydrocephalus: He presided over this major international conference in 2018

  • Leadership in EANS (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies): He has been a Core Member of both the EANS CSF Section (since October 2022) and the EANS CSF Task Force (2020)

Key Research & Projects

Dr. Palandri is the driving force behind several major research initiatives, including "The Bologna PRO-HYDRO Study" (active since 2015), which fosters a multidisciplinary approach to Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (iNPH). He is also the Principal Investigator for the STOP INPH STUDY (2024-present), an international multicenter project focusing on prodromal normal pressure hydrocephalus in collaboration with Uppsala University Hospital.
