Current Research Activities_____________________________________________

Study of polymeric systems for gas transport application. Fabrication of ultrathin polymeric composites suitable for the separation of H2/CO2 gas mixture (Carbon Capture and Storage applications). Preparation of biopolymeric composites to enhance barrier effect to O2 (food-packaging applications).

Feb 2022 – present: Junior assistant professor (fixed-term) at the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, School of Engineering and Architecture, Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna

Jun 2022 – Feb 2023: Research fellow at Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research in Advanced Mechanical Engineering and Materials Technology, Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna, supervisor Prof. Matteo Minelli. Improvement of adhesion performances in multilayered polymeric films and preparation of composites to improve films properties for food-packaging application (barrer to O2 and anti-fog effect).

Dec 2018 – Feb 2022: Research fellow at ISOF-CNR (Bologna, Italy), supervisor: dr. Vincenzo Palermo. Preparation of membranes for gas sieving coated with Graphene Oxide.

Apr 2020 – Jun 2020: Volunteer at the “Medical Mask Testing Laboratory”, (Sant`Orsola Hospital, Bologna, Italy): expertise in Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE).

Oct 2019 – Dec 2019: Teaching Assistant in `Principles of Chemical Engineering Laboratory`, degree course in `Chemical and Biochemical Engineering`.

Nov 2015 – Oct 2018: PhD student in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, School of Engineering and Architecture (Materials Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology), Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna (advisor Prof. Paola Fabbri). Potential usage of bacterial Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), and its properly prepared derivatives, in the realization of advanced devices was investigated.

May 2017 – Oct 2017: Research period at Department of Materials Engineering, University of São Paulo (advisor prof. Antonio José Felix de Carvalho). A new approach for the realization of PHA-based composites filled with MicroFibrilated Cellulose (MFC) through thermomechanical mixing was studied.

Sep 2015 – Oct 2015: INSTM scholarship at Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering Department, School of Engineering and Architecture, Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna (advisor Prof Paola Fabbri). A new 19F-NMR-based method for quantification of free hydroxyl group in hydroxyl terminated polymer was established.

Mar 2014 – Mar 2015: Internship in organic chemistry at Industrial Chemistry Department, School of Science, Alma Mater Studiorum Bologna (advisor Prof. Luca Bernardi). Possibility to modulate catalytic activities of thiourea-based organocatalysts through anions interaction was proved.

Jan 2012 – May 2012: Internship in inorganic chemistry at School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh (advisor Prof. Jason Love). A copper-based cleft-like macrocyclic complex was prepared and its potential as a catalyst for the reaction of carbon dioxide chemical reduction was studied.
