RESEARCH EXPERIENCES

University of Milano Bicocca Milano, IT

Research Intern, Department of Excellence in Sociology (December 2024 – April 2025)

  • Designed innovative population estimation methodology for City of Milan integrating machine learning models, LiDAR data, and 3D orthographic imagery to map realistic population density across urban areas
  • Proposed solution enabling Milan's municipal government to optimize resource allocation and service distribution based on actual resident and visitor traffic patterns
  • Conducted systematic literature review analyzing population estimation methodologies and comparing traditional census approaches with emerging geospatial techniques

Ministry of Education, University and Research Rome, IT

Intern, Office of Statistics and Information Heritage (October 2021 – March 2022)

  • Conducted quantitative analysis of the Italian school system, comparing schools according to quality standards and effectiveness in public fund allocation; particular emphasis on comparative analysis aggregated by different school types (public/private).

Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) Rome, IT

Research Intern, Department for Gender Equality (February 2021 – December 2021)

  • Systematically reviewed human trafficking estimation methodologies across international literature, identifying optimal capture-recapture approaches that informed subsequent experimental statistics development
  • Developed experimental statistics methodology for estimating hidden populations of human trafficking victims, integrating three confidential datasets from different institutional sources using advanced capture-recapture models and successfully overcoming data secrecy constraints to produce the first comprehensive victim count estimates for the Italian context.
  • Enhanced methodology through spatial regression modeling to isolate model error components and identify geographic trafficking patterns, confirming the existence of trafficking routes consistent with established sociological knowledge of the phenomenon (thesis work currently under publication)

University of Pisa in partnership with CESVOT Pisa, IT

Research Intern, Sociology (January 2018 – September 2018)

  • Conducted in-depth interviews with third sector association directors using CATI and CAWI methodologies, investigating organizational histories, community needs assessment, inter-organizational networks and partnerships, and funding structures to map the ecosystem of civil society organizations in Tuscany
  • Integrated quantitative and qualitative analysis to examine Third Sector Reform outcomes, comparing traditional vs. APS organizations' community building capacity and regulatory adaptation strategies
