My work focuses on midwifery care and the promotion of normal birth.

Currently, I am working on a systematic review of how midwives keep birth normal, during the first stage of labour. Moreover, with a recently formed research team, we are conducting a scoping review on physiological care during the third stage of labour. The aim of this studies are to increase awareness of how midwifery care supports the physiology of childbirth.

Other areas of interest include the factors that lead to midwives choosing this profession and qualitative research methods in health sciences.

In the past, I have focused on the various ways in which Italian midwives reconcile their profession’s philosophical views about labour with the use of epidural analgesia in clinical practice.

The next step will be to carry out research to demonstrate the effectiveness of midwifery care in normal childbirth.
