Curriculum vitae

Dr Davide Morselli, PhD

He obtained his PhD in materials science in 2014 at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Department of Enginering “Enzo Ferrari”). During his PhD Dr Davide Morselli had several experiences in national (e.g. Polytechnic of Turin) and international institutions (e.g. ETH Zurich, Switzerland and University of Free State, South Africa). He spent 5 years at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genova (Italy) in the group of Smart Materails led by Dr Athanassia Athanassiou. He is currently researcher at University of Bologna, working in the group of Sustainable and Multifunctional Polymeric Materials at the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering (DICAM) of the University of Bologna (Italy).

He is a materials scientist specialized in synthesis and characterization of inorganic nanomaterials, polymer- and biopolymer-based materials. In particular, He is currently dedicated to the synthesis of new bio-based photocurable resins for 3D printing and additives for modifying mechanical, thermal, optical and biological properties of biopolymers. His research is also focused on the design of innovative methods to prepare polymer- based nanocomposites by "in situ synthesis" of inorganic nanoparticles in order to achieve very homogeneous filler dispersions in polymeric matrices.

He has also experience in fabrication of composite and porous polymeric materials for various technological applications such as tissue regeneration, gas separation, food-packaging, water remediation and sensors.

He was involved in PRIN VISION Project of High National Relevance, funded by Italian Ministry of University and Research (grant number: 2017FWC3WC) – Tile: Formulation of advanced PHA-based biomaterials and their exploitation in 3D printing for electronics).

He was also part of the research unit of the University of Bologna within the project ORTHOline (grant number: F/190169/01-03/X44 - CUP B46G21000180005) financed by Italian Minister of the economic development (MISE) under the “Fabbrica Intelligente” framework. Title: “Sviluppo Linea di Produzione per Dispositivi Medici Impiantabili”.

In collaboration with the University of Trento (Italy), Davide Morselli is now co-investigator within the GENTEXT Project (PRIN2022), funded by Italian Ministry of Research and Education (end 09/2025- Title: Towards a new generation of eco-sustainable multifunctional textiles).
