Daniele Vigo was born in Milano, Italy, on May 23, 1963.

On March 22, 1989 he received his Ms Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bologna.

On November 1, 1989, he started the Ph.D. program in Systems Engineering at the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and Systems of the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Profs Paolo Toth and Silvano Martello. On September 9, 1993, he successfully defended his dissertation “Algoritmi Esatti ed Approssimati per Problemi di Routing e di Scheduling” (Exact and Heuristic Algorithms for Routing and Scheduling Problems), and obtained the Ph.D. in Systems Engineering.

On October 1, 1994, he beacame a Researcher (Assistant Professor) in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna. On October 1, 1997 he became Confirmed Researcher.

On November 1, 1998 he was nominated Associate Professor of Operations Research at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna.

On December, 2001, he obtained the habilitation to the position of Full Professor.

On January, 2004, he was nominated Full Professor of Operations Research at the 2nd Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna.

2006-12: responsible of international activities of 2nf Faculty of Engineering

2010-14: Visiting Professor at Goethe Universitat Frankfurt

2011-20: coordinator of the PhD program in Automatica e Ricerca Operativa, University of Bologna

2011-14: Director of the training center of Associazione Italiana Riscaldamento Urbano

2012-:15: member of the scientific council of Consorzio Interuniversitario per la Ricerca Operativa

2014- : Scientific responsible of the Laboratory for Optimization in Operations Management

2014- : Visting Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

2016-19: President of the Italian Operations Research Society (AIRO) including the coordination of the scientific sector MAT/09

2019- : Visiting Professor at University of Vienna

He has been supervisor of PhD students at the University of Bologna: Maria Battarra, Chiara Bordin, Selini Hadjidimitriou (Co supervisor), Stefano Novellani (Co supervisor), Claudio Gambella (Co supervisor), Alberto Santini (Co supervisor), Andrea Bessi, Federico Naldini (Co supervisor), Luca Accorsi (Co supervisor), Antonio Punzo (Co supervisor).
He has been Co supervisor of the PhD Thesis of Michael Schneider (Univ.Kaiserslautern), Andreas Stenger, Christian Doppstadt (University of Frankfurt), Ana Dolores Lopez Sanchez (Pablo de Olavide Unversity, Valencia). He is currently co supervising the PhD theses of
Antonio Punzo, Francesco Cavaliere, Alan Osorio and Silvia Anna Cordieri.

He has been responsible of 25 annual research grants (assegni di ricerca annuali) at the University of Bologna in the last ten years.
He has been member of the final examination committee for more than 25 international PhD students.

He has organized several international conferences, workshops, schools.
He was chair the Program committee of EURO 2016, Poznan, 2016;
He has been referee for international projects for research institutions in Hong Kong, Canada, Belgium, Sweden
