He is an environmental microbiologist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on the effects of environmental change on soil microbial communities and biogeochemical processes. He integrates omics approaches, quantitative analysis, and machine learning to study the functional traits of microorganisms and develop predictive models of ecosystem functioning, with a particular interest in soil carbon cycling.
He earned his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Tartu, Estonia, conducting research in the field of environmental microbiology. He currently works at the University of Bologna on the ERC EcoMEMO project, where he studies microbial responses to drought and precipitation variability through metagenomic and functional trait-based approaches.
