Adel-Naim Reyhani's research aims to understand the position of refugees in a state-based world order, from the perspectives of international refugee law and political theory. He is currently studying the role of courts in determining refugees' access to asylum.

Furthermore, his research has focused on the conceptual foundations of international refugee law, Hannah Arendt's refugee theory, the externalization of migration control, the right to asylum and access to asylum, the right to life private and family, on the concept of safe third country and the Dublin system, on detention and alternatives to detention and on trafficking in the context of asylum. Among other things, his research has generated insights into the lack of refugee law in Libya, indicating the need to move beyond state-bound conceptions of jurisdiction. Furthermore, he explored the failure of the European Court of Human Rights' practice in expulsion cases to capture the contribution of refugees to host communities, outlining a reconstructive path to address this shortcoming.
