Francesca Roversi Monaco

Associate Professor

Department of History and Cultures

Academic discipline: M-STO/01 Medieval History

Short Bio

Associate professor of Medieval History since 2014, she deals with the history of historiography, with a particular focus on the role of historical writing in the construction and invention of collective memory and identity. The past as a cultural creation, reconstructed and reorganised in political function, and the 'past as text' represent the main thread of her reflection, which is complemented by an interest in medievalism and the perception and use of the Middle Ages as a myth-engine in the contemporary age

From 2014 to 2020 she has been the Director of the History Programme, she is delegate of teaching of DISCI. She is a member of the Advisory Board of many periodicals and book series, and she collaborates with some journals (“Studi medievali”; “Bullettino dell'Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo”). She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo (ISIME), of the Istituto per la storia dell'Università di Bologna (ISTUB) and of  the Società Italiana degli Storici Medievisti (SISMED).
